Adulting is a SCAM!!!
The older I get, the more I realize adulting isn’t what it’s all cracked up to be. It’s challenging, overwhelming at times and full of too much responsibility. You mean to tell me we have to:
Pay bills for the rest of my life
Go to several types of doctors a year to make sure everything is healthy and functioning properly
Learn how to properly manage stressors
Have some form of stable income to pay bills for the rest of my life, on top of investing for retirement
Maturely express my emotions and communicate effectively in relationships
Heal from past traumas
Take care of your household (whether single or married)
Manage and maintain healthy relationships
If you throw a little bit of perfectionism in there, you’re probably trying to do many of these at once and do it by a certain deadline, in addition to any other goals/tasks you’ve set for yourself.
I know. I know. It is a lot, but I want us to begin learning how to balance and find joy in every moment of this journey. One thing we must realize is that we can’t do it all at once. Finding balance in life can be hard, especially with being a perfectionist or trying to overcome perfectionism. There’s this obligation that we put on ourselves that everything has to be done…and all at one time. Why are we like this??
The need to be an overachiever, resulting in anxiety and disappointment from being overwhelmed by overachieving. It’s a cycle that leaves us unfulfilled, unhappy and disappointed in ourselves. It robs us of the opportunity to bask in the present moment and to enjoy the process.
With the 24 hours you have in a day, how can you be most effective and how can you put less pressure on yourself? Yes, being an adult comes with its own set of challenges, but who wants to continue to go through life with the constant pressure we inflict upon ourselves, on top of the typical responsibilities of life?
Girlies. One breath at a time. One step at a time.
Is it easy? No. Is it possible? Yes!
We got this.
